Science Curriculum

Introduction
TO CHRISTIAN LIGHT SCIENCE CURRICULUM
As children learn to understand and interpret the world around them, they are led to honor the great God who created it all. “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:3).
Elementary
COURSE DESCRIPTION
In elementary grades, Christian Light Science uses simple experiments along with workbook exercises to help students explore and learn scientific laws. Health studies are incorporated into Science.
The following grades are available in Sunrise Edition format: Grades 1, 2, 5, and 6. All other grades are in the older format where the daily exercises are not divided into lessons and review is limited.
Science is considered a supplemental course for Grades 1 and 2. Grade 5 is based on a textbook. The other grades are LightUnit-based.
High School
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Christian Light offers four high school Science courses as well as Apologia’s science courses and a chemistry course from Berean Builders.
Grade 9 – General Science - The alternative Apologia course for Grade 9 is Physical Science.
Grade 10 – Biology - The alternative Apologia course for Grade 10 is Biology.
Grade 11 – Chemistry - The alternative Apologia course for Grade 11 is Berean Builders Chemistry.
Grade 12 – Physics - The alternative Apologia course for Grade 12 is Apologia Physics.
Grades 9-12 are currently available only in non-Sunrise LightUnit format. Daily work is not divided into lessons, but students complete several pages each day.
Course Components
OVERVIEW
LightUnits
New concepts, instructions, and student exercises are contained in LightUnit workbooks. The LightUnits are numbered 01 through 10 (for example, 701 through 710 for Grade 7). Grades 5 and 6 have fewer than ten LightUnits each. Students start with the 01 LightUnit and complete one at a time until reaching LightUnit 10.
Answer Keys
Answers for each grade from Grades 3-12 are found in Answer Keys. The answers for Grades 1 and 2 are in their respective Teacher’s Guides.
Textbook
Grace 5 Science is based on the textbook God’s Marvelous Gifts. LightUnits are available. An alternative method is the textbook study, which uses questions from the textbook and requires more teacher help.
Teacher's Guides
Grades 1 and 2 feature Teacher’s Guides with answers. Grade 5 has a Teacher’s Guide for use when doing the textbook study instead of using the LightUnits.
