Grade 1
Sunrise Edition
Sunrise Math 100 lays a foundation for many of the major math concepts the student will meet during his lifetime. Each lesson introduces one or more bite-sized new number concepts. Most of the student work consists of continuous review to ensure that the concepts stick. The child experiences math as a whole rather than as isolated skills.
Interspersed with basic number skills are forays into geometry, our money system, mental math, and number patterns. Practical story problems with a Biblical worldview relate math to real life. The U.S. and the metric measurement systems are emphasized equally. Daily speed drills, oral drills, and flash-card exercises help cement the basic addition/subtraction facts from 1-20.
The Teacher's Guide provides answers to the LightUnits, ideas, useful appendices, and alternate LightUnit tests and is required for the course.

Grade 2
Sunrise Edition
Math LightUnit 201 reviews concepts that should be adequately mastered in order to succeed in Level 200. It can be used as a diagnostic tool.
The remaining nine LightUnits teach new skills and concepts such as telling time, reading simple graphs, adding/subtracting multi-digit numbers with carrying/borrowing, working with money, basic fraction concepts, and measurement in both the U.S. and metric systems.
Daily review on the addition/subtraction facts from 1-20 ensures mastery. Multiplication is introduced in Math 206, and by the end of the course, students have memorized the tables for 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10. Each lesson contains a realistic story problem or two using a theme (which varies with each LightUnit) such as pets, grandparents, and springtime.
The Teacher's Guide provides ideas, useful appendices, alternate LightUnit tests, and answers to the LightUnits. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guide is purchased.

Grade 3
Sunrise Edition
Math LightUnit 301 reviews concepts that should be adequately mastered in order to succeed in Math 300. It can be used as a diagnostic tool.
The remaining LightUnits review previously taught concepts in Math 200 and introduce new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. We teach the metric system simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement. Students acquire a full understanding of both systems.
Addition/subtraction flash cards and multiplication/division flash cards are required for this course. By the end of the course, students should have memorized the multiplication tables up to 10.
Each LightUnit incorporates a theme into its daily story problems, adding a practical component to math. Themes in Math 300 include insects, cooking, the ocean, and a family vacation to Yellowstone National Park.
The Teacher's Guide provides answers to the LightUnits, ideas, useful appendices, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guide is purchased.

Grade 4
Sunrise Edition
LightUnit Study Method
Math LightUnit 401 reviews concepts that should be adequately mastered in order to succeed in Math 400. It can be used as a diagnostic tool.
The remaining LightUnits introduce new skills and concepts in increments, while continuously reviewing earlier material. The metric system is taught simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement.
Daily flash-card exercises and speed drills cement the basic number facts into the child’s memory. Along with general fourth-grade math skills such as long division and fractions and decimals, a foundation for later geometry and algebra is laid in gentle, painless steps.
LightUnit themes used in story problems take students around the world from Italy to Australia to a Navajo reservation in New Mexico to a science station on Antarctica.
The Teacher's Guides give teaching tips, extra practice, solutions, LightUnit answers, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guides are purchased.
Textbook Study Method
Now this time-tested math program is also available in a full-color textbook. The format and appearance are new, but we have kept the incremental approach to learning and the same scope and sequence as the LightUnits.
This course includes a textbook that is attractively and professionally formatted with colorful pictures and illustrations. It uses the same learning approach as LightUnits: spiral, incremental learning, continuous review. The Teacher’s Guide is full-color, and includes reproductions of all textbook pages with answers. The Full Solution Answer Key shows each problem with its solution for the textbook, quizzes, and tests. The Student Pack includes consumable quizzes, tests, and daily speed/mastery drills.

Grade 5
Sunrise Edition
Math LightUnit 501 reviews concepts that should be adequately mastered in order to succeed in Math 500. It can be used as a diagnostic tool.
The remaining LightUnits introduce new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. We teach the metric system simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement.
Daily speed drills continue to cement the basic number facts into the child’s memory. Along with the usual fifth-grade math skills of reducing, carrying and borrowing with fractions, multiplying and dividing decimals, and applying the four operations to increasingly complex problems, we lay a foundation for later geometry and algebra in gentle, painless steps.
LightUnit themes in story problems give students a window into actual Christian missionary activities around the world.
The Teacher's Guides give teaching tips, extra practice, solutions, LightUnit answers, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guides are purchased.

Grade 6
Sunrise Edition
Math LightUnit 601 reviews concepts that should be adequately mastered in order to succeed in Level 600. It can be used as a diagnostic tool.
The remaining LightUnits introduce new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. We teach the metric system simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement.
We assume total mastery of the number facts in all four operations previous to Math 600. After Math 601, speed drills stop. This course covers three-digit divisors, decimal division, area and volume, using a compass and protractor, exponents, simplifying expressions, solving equations in two steps, estimation, and graphs and statistics.
LightUnit themes in story problems and random nuggets of information are based on noted mathematicians in history.
The Teacher's Guides give teaching tips, extra practice, solutions, LightUnit answers, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guides are purchased.

Grade 7
Sunrise Edition
Math LightUnit 701 tests and reviews concepts that should have been mastered in sixth grade to verify readiness for the Math 700 level.
The remaining LightUnits introduce new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. We teach the metric system simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement.
Math 700 themes, one distinct theme per LightUnit, are based on Christian occupations and a Biblical worldview of business, family, and personal finances. This practical emphasis on realistic problem-solving is balanced with continued advancement in geometry and pre-algebra.
We assume student proficiency in the basic facts and the four mathematical operations, but still provide daily practice to keep skills fresh, along with mastery drills on geometry formulas, definitions, and other math facts.
The Teacher's Guides give teaching tips, extra practice, solutions, LightUnit answers, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guides are purchased.

Grade 9
Sunrise Edition Algebra I
1 credit
Sunrise Algebra 1 uses the same methodology as elementary Sunrise Math, with its incremental teaching and continuous review. Students will appreciate the reference numbers after each direction line that indicate the lessons where the concept was previously taught. “Math in History” notes spark students' interest and broaden their knowledge.
Algebra 1 is available in two formats: a textbook or 10 LightUnits. The exercises are the same in both the LightUnits and the textbook, but the textbook is more colorful.
Textbook study: The full-color textbook requires students to work the exercises on a separate paper. It is easier to refer to previous lessons using the textbook. The quiz/test pack must be purchased separately for the textbook study.
The solution keys are the same for both study methods. They feature a complete list of steps for each problem to make it easy to find errors in the student’s work.
LightUnit study: The LightUnit study option allows students to work exercises directly in the LightUnit. The quizzes and tests are included in the LightUnits and do not need to be ordered separately.
The solution keys are the same for both study methods. They feature a complete list of steps for each problem to make it easy to find errors in the student’s work.
