Grade 6

  • Reading

    Sunrise 2nd Edition

Teach students not just to read well, but to think well! This half-year course includes five LightUnit workbooks, a reader, and a Teacher’s Guide. The Answer Keys are not required if you have the Teacher’s Guide.

As a five-LightUnit course, Reading 6 takes only one semester to complete. Having class every other day is one way to spread the course over the entire school year. View the course scope and sequence.

  • Bible

    Sunrise Edition

After working through Bible 6, students will see the Old Testament with new eyes! This course picks up where Bible 5 left off, beginning with Joshua and ending with the return from captivity and a look forward to the coming Messiah.

Each lesson includes a well-written Bible story followed by student exercises under different headings, each with a specific focus: Know God, Know Your Bible, Those Curious Customs, and Take It to Heart. Lay of the Land map exercises help students understand the geography of the stories. Toward the end of the course, students begin reading selections from the Bible. All Christian Light Bible courses use the King James Version.

This course consists of ten LightUnit workbooks and two Teacher’s Guides. Two Answer Keys are optional. View the course scope and sequence.

  • Language Arts

    Sunrise 2nd Edition

Language Arts 6 integrates grammar, spelling, and penmanship into one easy-to-use course. Use Christian Light’s Language Arts Diagnostic Test to place students new to the curriculum. New concepts are not tested until they have been reviewed at least four times.

In addition to working with grammar, language mechanics, and sentence diagramming, students write a character sketch, compare and contrast, and study poetry. Each LightUnit includes two creative writing lessons. The three spelling lists in each LightUnit include twenty words each.

The course consists of ten LightUnit workbooks and a Teacher’s Guide. The Answer Keys are not required if you purchase the Teacher’s Guides. View the course scope and sequence.

  • Math

    Sunrise Edition

Sunrise Math 6 teaches new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. Concepts are tested only after being reviewed for five days or more. Use Christian Light’s Math Diagnostic Test to place students new to the curriculum.

Each previous grade of Sunrise Math features daily speed drills. This course assumes mastery of the number facts in all four operations, so there are no speed drills after Math 601. The course covers three-digit divisors, decimal division, area and volume, using a compass and protractor, exponents, simplifying expressions, solving equations in two steps, estimation, and graphs and statistics. Unit themes focus on noted mathematicians in history and how man has used mathematical laws to make new discoveries.

Math 6 offers two study options:

    LightUnit Study Method

LightUnit workbooks allow students to do their work right on the page. They can be less intimidating to students and easier to handle than a textbook. The LightUnit study method consists of ten LightUnits and two Teacher’s Guides. Two Answer Keys are optional. View the course scope and sequence.

    Textbook Study Method

The textbook uses the same methodology and covers the same material as the LightUnits, though the sequence is sometimes different. The textbook is more colorful than the LightUnits and makes it easier for students to refer to previous lessons. Students must write their answers on other paper (except on quizzes and tests).

The textbook study method consists of one Textbook, one pack of Student Material, and either a Teacher’s Guide or a Full Solution Answer Key (your choice). View the course scope and sequence.

  • Science

    Sunrise Edition

Science 6 gives students a solid basis in a variety of scientific subjects including astronomy, weather, climate, and human anatomy. Science supplies for this course are available from Home Science Tools.

This course consists of nine LightUnit workbooks and two Answer Keys. The Teacher’s Guide is optional.

  • Social Studies

    Sunrise Edition

Give your students a deeper understanding of their Latin American neighbors. Social Studies 6 is based on the textbook Neighbors in Latin America. Units 1-4 cover the early history, geography, and climate of Latin America. Units 5-10 divide Latin America into regions and give specific information about the major countries in each region.

There are two study options. Both options require the textbook. View the course scope and sequence.

    LightUnit Study Method

The LightUnit study is recommended for homeschools and schools where teacher involvement is limited. LightUnits provide exercises, daily review, quizzes, and tests. The LightUnit study method includes ten LightUnit workbooks, a textbook, and two Answer Keys.

    Worksheet Study Method

The Worksheet study is designed for classrooms and requires more teacher involvement. Because worksheet exercises do not include reviews, the teacher must prepare students for tests through regular oral review. The Worksheets provide a total of 138 lessons, including tests and reviews. In addition to the textbook, this study method includes two Worksheet booklets, one Test & Review Pack, and two Answer Keys. The full-color, deluxe Teacher’s Guide is helpful but not required.
