Sunrise 2nd Edition
Reading 600 uses five LightUnits and is based on the reader Calls to Courage, illustrated with fullcolor art. Stories of courageous men and women provide good examples for sixth graders to follow.
Using the LightUnits, students build vocabulary, make inferences, identify the author’s purpose, analyze story elements, recognize literary techniques, work with fiction and nonfiction genres, examine the mechanics of poetry, and apply lessons from the stories.
Two or three lessons per week cover a full year’s work, or you may choose to cover the course in one semester. Students may do many exercises independently. The Answer Key is spiral bound and contains reproductions of LightUnit pages with answers.
The Teacher’s Guide includes LightUnit pages with answers, instructions for teaching new concepts, oral reading activity ideas, discussion questions, and alternate tests.
Sunrise Bible 600 picks up the study of the Old Testament where Bible 500 ended. It begins with Joshua and the crossing of the Jordan and closes with the return from the Captivity and looks forward to the coming Messiah. Each lesson contains a well-written Bible story and includes workbook activities. In the later LightUnits of the course, students begin reading from the KJV Bible as a part of their lesson text. Map exercises show the geography of the different periods covered.
Bible 600 has ten LightUnits with 16 lessons in each including the two quizzes and a test. This provides for one lesson per day for one school year. The Teacher’s Guides give objectives and suggestions for teaching each lesson, provides alternate tests, and include LightUnit pages complete with answers to all activities.
Sunrise 2nd Edition
Sunrise 2nd Edition Language Arts 600 integrates grammar, spelling, and penmanship into one easy-to-use package. New skills are introduced incrementally at the beginning of each daily lesson, followed by reviews of the latest material as well as more familiar concepts. Lessons conclude with penmanship and spelling practice. Each LightUnit includes two lessons of creative writing.
In addition to basic English skills, students study appositives, complements, dependent clauses, and multiple kinds of pronouns.
The Answer Key is spiral bound and contains reproductions of LightUnit pages with answers.
The Teacher’s Guide includes teaching notes, spelling word lists, LightUnit pages with answers, and alternate tests.
Math LightUnit 601 reviews concepts that should be adequately mastered in order to succeed in Level 600. It can be used as a diagnostic tool.
The remaining LightUnits introduce new skills and concepts in incremental, continuously reviewed steps. We teach the metric system simultaneously with the U.S. system of measurement.
We assume total mastery of the number facts in all four operations previous to Math 600. After Math 601, speed drills stop. This course covers three-digit divisors, decimal division, area and volume, using a compass and protractor, exponents, simplifying expressions, solving equations in two steps, estimation, and graphs and statistics.
LightUnit themes in story problems and random nuggets of information are based on noted mathematicians in history.
The Teacher's Guides give teaching tips, extra practice, solutions, LightUnit answers, and alternate LightUnit tests. Answer keys are optional if the Teacher's Guides are purchased.
Textbook Study Method
Now this time-tested math program is also available in a full-color textbook. The format and appearance are new, but we have kept the incremental approach to learning and the same scope and sequence as the LightUnits.
This course includes a textbook that is attractively and professionally formatted with colorful pictures and illustrations. It uses the same learning approach as LightUnits: spiral, incremental learning, continuous review. The Teacher’s Guide is full-color, and includes reproductions of all textbook pages with answers. The Full Solution Answer Key shows each problem with its solution for the textbook, quizzes, and tests. The Student Pack includes consumable quizzes, tests, and daily speed/mastery drills.
Science 600, now in Sunrise format, gives students a solid basis in a variety of scientific subjects including astronomy, weather, climate, and human anatomy. The updated graphics and pictures help students learn as well as marvel at God’s awesome Creation.
Experiments and demonstrations are included to give students opportunities to apply what they have learned and expand their understanding beyond the text.
Each of the nine LightUnits has sixteen daily lessons including two quizzes, a Self Check, and a test. Lessons include Looking Back sections that review important concepts to help the student prepare for quizzes and tests.
The Teacher’s Guide includes objectives for each lesson, teaching tips, additional activities, and interesting information that goes beyond the lesson.

Social Studies 600 is based on Neighbors in Latin America, a beautifully illustrated full-color textbook. Units 1-4 cover the early history, geography, and climate of Latin America as a whole. Units 5-10 divide Latin America into regions and give specific information about the major countries in each region.
A limited number of activities appear in the textbook, designed to review only the highlights. For student work activities, choose either the workbook study or the LightUnit study for better coverage of the material. Either option is a full-year course.
The ten LightUnits match the ten units of the textbook. Two quizzes and a LightUnit test are included in each LightUnit.
The two-workbook option provides one worksheet per lesson and will require more teacher input. This option includes a pack of quizzes, reviews, and tests for each student.
