Reading
Sunrise 2nd Edition
Reading 2 is based on two readers, Helping Hands and Happy Hearts. The course teaches and reviews phonics and other reading mechanics. Exercises teach basic comprehension and include some inference and application questions. View the course scope and sequence.
Two study methods are available:
LightUnit Study Method
The LightUnit study works well in any setting and is especially useful for homeschools and schools where teacher involvement is limited. The LightUnits prepare students for quizzes and tests by including systematic review of new concepts. Students may do some exercises independently. This study method includes ten LightUnit workbooks, two readers, and two Teacher’s Guides.
Worksheet Study Method
The Worksheet study is designed for classrooms and requires more teacher involvement. Since the worksheet exercises do not include reviews of new concepts, the teacher must prepare students for quizzes and tests. The worksheets come in two booklets containing a total of 64 two-page lessons. Quizzes and tests for this method are sold separately. This study method includes two Worksheet booklets, one quiz & test pack, and one Teacher’s Guide.

Bible
Sunrise Edition
Children love the great Bible stories of our amazing God and His people! Bible 2 familiarizes students with Bible stories from the Old Testament. Many stories from Grade 1 are retold and expanded. Each lesson has two pages and focuses on one of God’s attributes seen in the story.
The first page is a simply written Bible story. The Teacher’s Guide includes an expanded version of the story. The second page of the lesson contains an activity such as ordering events, decoding a message, color-by-number, or a crossword puzzle.
Bible 2 can be used as a devotional two or three times a week. The course includes no quizzes or tests. Students can enjoy learning Bible stories and truths without academic pressure or a heavy workload.
This course consists of five LightUnit workbooks and one Teacher’s Guide. View the course scope and sequence.

Language Arts
Sunrise 2nd Edition
Language Arts 2 integrates grammar, spelling, and penmanship into one easy-to-use course. It completes the phonics program begun in first grade. Use Christian Light’s Language Arts Diagnostic Test to place students new to the curriculum.
Lessons begin with teacher-directed oral review, followed by new concepts introduced in small increments. Lessons also include a section that reviews material from previous lessons. Students learn about nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, capitalization, punctuation, and how to identify sentences and phrases. Students begin to learn to write cursive. Each LightUnit contains a creative writing assignment. The three spelling lists in each LightUnit include fifteen words each.
The course consists of ten LightUnit workbooks and a Teacher’s Guide. Phonics cards (available in two sizes) are a valuable teaching tool for introducing and reviewing phonics sounds.

Math
Sunrise Edition
Sunrise Math 2 teaches telling time, reading simple graphs, adding/subtracting multi-digit numbers with carrying/borrowing, and working with money. Students learn basic fraction concepts and measurement in both the U.S. and metric systems. Use Christian Light’s Math Diagnostic Test to place students new to the curriculum.
Daily review of the addition/subtraction facts from 1-18 ensures mastery. Multiplication is introduced in LightUnit 206, and students memorize the tables for 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10. Practical story problems relate to a theme (which varies with each LightUnit) such as pets, grandparents, and springtime. Concepts are tested only after being reviewed for five days or more.
The course consists of ten LightUnit workbooks, two Teacher’s Guides, Addition & Subtraction Flash Cards, Multiplication & Division Flash Cards, and a Counting Chart.
