Grade 1
Sunrise 2nd Edition
Reading 1 is a 12-week course that follows Learning to Read, Christian Light’s first-grade phonics course.
The stories and poems in the reader I Wonder develop reading skills while building character. Stories are illustrated with colorful artwork and teach honesty, good habits, thankfulness, and trust.
After reading each story, students complete the exercises in the LightUnits. Students may do some exercises independently. Self checks and tests measure the student’s mastery of the material.

Grade 2
Sunrise 2nd Edition
Reading 2 is based on two readers, Helping Hands and Happy Hearts. The course teaches and reviews phonics and other reading mechanics. Exercises teach basic comprehension and include some inference and application questions.

Grade 3
Sunrise 2nd Edition
Reading is a door that opens new worlds to us. Reading 3 continues teaching students to read well and to understand what they are reading. Exercises teach reading mechanics along with comprehension, analysis, and evaluation skills.

This half-year course includes five LightUnit workbooks, a reader, and a Teacher’s Guide. The Answer Keys are not required if you have the Teacher’s Guide.
Students learn to make inferences, recognize basic story construction, understand the mechanics of poetry, and distinguish between fact and opinion.
